Your comparison of the GSL to Windows Vista is completely wrong. I am a software developer and it costs nothing and I don't have to sign any agreements to develop for any version of Windows. Microsoft even lets me download the most of the tools (and all of the critical ones) for free. Software I developed under just about any version of Windows will still work under Vista.
Now a better comparison would be the iPhone. It's a product that alot of people like, but if you want to write your own software, you are SOL. Until recently, you didn't even have the choice to buy from anyone but Apple. Now their new license is a little more open than GSL, but ultimately you have to get permission from Apple before you can write anything for an iPhone.

Hey guys, I just caught my first glimpse of Street Fighter 4 gameplay and it looks incredible. Think you could squeeze a word on the next big step in what is, for me anyway, the godfather of fighting games?
